pArt of Science
As researchers, when we explore something, we are passionate about sharing it in a way that would be received more easily.
We write articles; we do presentations, and visual materials: photography, microscopy images, basic sketches, detailed illustrations, 3D models, are often the best narrators of our research.
Visual communication tools are powerful ways to grab the attention of the audience and enhance the memorability of the subject. Similarly, throughout my research, I needed visual materials to tell my story.

Principal Investigator
Dr Betül Aldemir Dikici
Dr. Baldemir received her bachelor’s degree in Bioengineering and a masters degree in Biomedical Technologies. She has been awarded a post-graduate scholarship by Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Turkey and joined The University of Sheffield to pursue a PhD degree.

During her PhD education, she has been invited as a visiting researcher by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Harvard-MIT Biomedical Engineering Centre as a part of a collaborative project, and she has been awarded the Battelle-Jeff Wadsworth Visiting Research Fellowship to conduct this collaboration. She obtained her PhD degree from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Sheffield. Dr Baldemir was awarded the "Mike Sellars Medal and Prize in Materials Science and Engineering" by the University of Sheffield for the high quality of her thesis. She was also awarded first place in 2020 (DRA 2020) in the Engineering Sciences category of the Doctoral Researcher Awards in the UK. Her research interest focuses on biomaterials and tissue engineering. She is also passionate about the artistic representation of science. She creates scientific and medical illustrations and multi-tone false-coloured scanning electron microscopy images for better visual communication in science. Her scientific artworks have been granted national and international awards.
